Projects

Jean Sprackland works as a consultant and project manager for organisations involved with literature and education.

She is currently Education Manager for the Poetry Archive, the world’s premier online collection of recordings of poets reading their work. You can enjoy listening here, free of charge, to the voices of contemporary English-language poets and of poets from the past. The Teachers and Students pages contain resources specially designed to bring poetry to life in the classroom.

“A fabulous new resource, which…broadens spectacularly the access people have to the poetry of the last hundred years and could change the ways in which it is taught, learned and loved.”
P N Review, January 2006

Jean has worked on projects for the Poetry Society, including poetryclass, an initiative to train, support and resource teachers. She wrote, commissioned and edited teachers' resources for National Poetry Day, including booklets and a CDrom.

She is the co-author, with Mandy Coe, of Our thoughts are bees: Writers Working with Schools. This book is for writers, teachers and project co-ordinators. It gives advice on organising exciting projects in schools, from the author’s visit to the long-term residency. It examines the potential impact on young people’s lives, and sets out a vision for the future of writing in education.

Jean has held residencies in schools and universities, and is a tutor for the Arvon Foundation.
